Joppe has both a technological economics (Stirling University) and chemical engineering degree (Delft University )and has a broad international experience, including 25 years at Shell (Netherlands, Brunei, Oman and the UK) and six years at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (Geneva) as Water Director. Over the 25 years at Shell he has been instrumental in improving the environmental and social performance in the context of a changing social and climate environment of the company at corporate, operating unit and project level. At the WBCSD he managed a water program for the WBCSD member companies in the area of water stewardship, water efficiency in agriculture, circular use of water and he developed and implemented the WASH pledge for companies and in that context worked closely with the WMO on water and climate issues.
He is currently a UNEP consultant, a jury member of the GES 2019 ( water), a visiting professor at NTU in Singapore , member of the Programme Advisory Committee of the Amsterdam International Water Week and a member of the Advisory Council of the World Energy and Meteorological Council.
