The Summer School 2023: Mastering the Development of Climate Services is co-organised by the University of Vigo, WEMC, World Meteorological Organisation, and Inside Climate Services srl.
You will learn about the importance of climate services for the energy and water sectors, understanding recent policy, scientific and technological developments. You will acquire theoretical and technical knowledge about seasonal forecasting and climate projections, and also understand the principles of service co-production and good practices for service delivery. As part of the training, you will have a practical assignment to develop a particular aspect of the service value chain, working in small teams to develop a mini-climate service. Hearing from leading experts, you will learn about real-world applications of climate services and best practice approaches.
The Summer School will consist of three full days and two half days of lectures, group work and panel discussions throughout the week. You will hear from leaders in the energy, water and meteorology sectors. Members of the Scientific Committee include Alberto Troccoli (WEMC), Juan A. Añel (University of Vigo), Roberta Boscolo (WMO), Sue-Ellen Haupt (NCAR), and Laurent Dubus (RtE).
Objectives
- Achieve a broad view of available climate services for the energy sector
- Explore stakeholder engagement, user requirements and climate service value
- Undertake training to acquire technical skills for co-producing climate services including data processing
- Gain an appreciation of innovation processes for developing and delivering weather, water, and climate services to energy users including business models and networking opportunities with other sectors

Target audience: Practitioners, PhD students, post-docs and early career researchers, planners, industry experts and anyone interested in climate services are invited to apply. No restrictions on the geographical location of applicants apply.
Entry Requirements: Certificate in Upper Secondary Education (Science, Geography, Business etc.)

Costs to participate:
- Registration fee (includes lectures, coffee breaks, teaching material, field trip)
- €650 early bird (now extended until 7th April)
- €750 regular (7th April – 1st May)

- full board for six nights: €510 double occupancy room (per person) / €720 single occupancy room

Terms & Conditions
- Registrations can be cancelled for any reason with a full refund (minus a €75 admin cost) before 31st March 2023
- After this date, 50% of the fee will be refunded until 1st May 2023. Cancellation after this date will not be refunded
- If for any reason the organiser decides to cancel the school participants will receive a full refund

The Summer School 2023 will be hosted at the beautiful Balneario de Mondariz Spa Hotel.
Set next to the River Tea, Hotel Balneario de Mondariz is one of Spain’s most well-known spas. It features an 18-hole golf course with impressive views of the picturesque Galician countryside. Free WiFi is offered throughout the property.

The Water Palace has water beds, geysers and hydromassage jets. There is also a river area, a cascade and dry and steam saunas.
