Who we are
The World Energy & Meteorology Council (WEMC) is a non-profit organisation devoted to promoting and enhancing the interaction between the energy industry and the weather, climate and broader environmental sciences communities.
At WEMC, we are committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of our website visitors. It is particularly important to us that you know that WEMC does not sell, rent or trade e-mail lists with other companies and businesses for marketing purposes. We value and respect the privacy of our members and site visitors. In this Privacy Policy, we provide detailed information about when and why we collect your personal information, how we use it, the limited conditions under which we may disclose it to others and how we keep it secure. The types of data we collect
Cookies
The WEMC website (https://www.wemcouncil.org/wp/) places cookies, which are small data files, on your computer or handheld device. This is standard practice for all websites. Cookies are essential for helping us deliver a high-quality website and browser experience for our visitors and members. Some cookies collect information about browsing and information search behaviour.
Cookies from External Parties
Some of the cookies are placed with the consent of WEMC by third parties with the aim to bring certain products and services to your attention or to give you direct access to social media; Google Maps, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube. For the cookies that these external parties place, the information they collect with them and the purpose for which that information is used, we refer to the privacy statements of these parties on their own websites. These statements can change regularly and WEMC has no control over these changes.
Google Analytics
When you visit our website (https://www.wemcouncil.org/wp/) we are interested to learn about your interests in our work. To better understand this, we enlist the help of a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor activity. For example, we are able to know the number of visitors to various parts of the site. We use this information to improve our website and provide you, the visitor, a better browser experience. The information is only processed in a way that allows anonymity so no one can be identified. Mailing lists
As part of the WEMC membership registration process for our monthly e-newsletter, we collect some personal details. We use the information for the following purposes:
- to keep you up to date with news about topics you have selected to learn more about through our work
- to contact you if we need to obtain from you, or provide you with, additional information
- to ensure our records are correct and to occasionally check with you that you are happy and satisfied with the information updates you receive from us
WEMC do not share, rent or trade e-mail lists or any form of personal member information with other organisations and businesses.
WEMC use a third-party provider, Brevo, to deliver our newsletter. They are a data processor (as defined by the GDPR) and WEMC is the data controller. Brevo gathers statistics around e-mail opening and clicks on links of interest, using standard technologies to monitor and help us improve our e-newsletter. Withdrawal of Consent
As a WEMC member you are able to unsubscribe from general mailing lists at any time you choose. This can be done by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our e-mails, or by e-mailing info@wemcouncil.org.
Third Parties
Hyperlinks
WEMC may provide hyperlinks from the site to third party websites. No liability is accepted for the contents of any site operated by a third party that may be accessed via links from the site. These links are provided for your convenience only. We encourage our users read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personal data, when they leave our website. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by WEMC.
WEMC does not use tracking cookies for commercial purposes.
Access to your personal information
As a WEMC member you have the right to request to, view, amend, and/or delete (also known as the Right to be forgotten) the personal information that we hold on you. Should you wish to exercise this right please e-mail your request to info@wemcouncil.org.
Changes to this Privacy Notice
At WEMC we review our Data Protection Policy and Privacy Notice at least once a year, more frequently if required. We are committed to keeping our members and site visitors informed of any changes. As a member you will be notified of any changes to our Data Protection Policy or Privacy Notice by e-mail.
