We’ve agreed that it would be helpful for us to define what we mean by ‘educators’. Up until now, I’ve been using the term loosely and generically to mean anyone involved in training and educating others in a formal capacity, and using the term ‘teachers’ 0r ‘in formal education’ to mean those who work with young people up to the age of 18. But of course, we need consistency of terminology to avoid confusion.

    • Teachers of students at primary and secondary level (“K-12”)
    • Teachers and lecturers at tertiary level (i.e. University academics)
    • Trainers of academics and workers in industry, or those preparing to enter academia/industry
    • Providers of career and continuous development (e.g. knowledge courses)

Some may be more than one, of course. Before I started working for WEMC, I did all the above to different degrees.

Would these ‘categories’ cover everyone? Am I missing anybody? Can they be defined by a single/short terminology?
