Alberto TroccoliJuly 15, 2019 at 2:04 pm #9587Hello! I’m Kit (pronouns: they/them), WEMC’s Education & Program Officer, and the lead facilitator of the Education SIG. I have over a decade of experience teaching high-school in the United Kingdom, specialising in Geography, and the Natural/Earth/Environmental Sciences and Social Sciences, and I ams also a teacher trainer and educational author with a number of published articles. The Education SIG provides a fantastic opportunity for educators (at all levels), academics and experts working in industry to collaborate in a manner or ways towards a number of objectives, and it’s something I’m excited to be leading! In my spare time I maintain an educational and resource blog – https://www.geogramblings.com – which also gives you a good idea of my knowledge, expertise and educational style, I suppose!
Laurent DubusDecember 19, 2019 at 3:29 pm #10806Hi, I’m Laurent Dubus, one of the founders of WEMC, and the Services Director.
My main affiliation is lead scientist with RTE, the french Transmission System Operator (TSO). I’m working on weather and climate applications with a focus on long-term power system evolution and resilience to climate change, and short-term supply-demand balance.
I have skills and experience in climate system modelling, weather and climate forecasts and power systems management. My activities are dedicated to improving the effective integration of high-quality weather, climate and other environmental information into energy sector policy formulation, planning, risk management and operational activities, to better manage power systems on all time scales. I am involved in different French and international activities and organisations at the nexus between energy and meteorology, including WMO, the Superior Council of Meteorology in France and the ICEM conference series. Before joining RTE, I worked for EDF R&D between 2001 and 2019.
I hold an engineering degree in Marine Environment and a PhD in Physical Oceanography.
I contributed to several trainings co-organized by WEMC and WMO on climate services, and I am also a certified trainer of the Copernicus Climate Change program.
Sebastian SterlDecember 19, 2019 at 4:11 pm #10807Hello all, my name is Sebastian, I’m a researcher on energy and climate at the Free University of Brussels (VUB). I’m a physicist by training and worked for several years as a consultant and analyst in international climate and energy policy before returning to research. My work is currently mostly focused on modelling pathways and formulating strategies for renewable electricity generation expansion in developing countries. Aside from work activities, one of my passions is delivering presentations to general audiences, high schools, municipalities &c. on the climate crisis and how it can be overcome.
