Colchester Borough Council has declared a Climate Emergency and needs to develop a roadmap to become carbon neutral by 2030.We are seeking an enthusiastic project manager who cares about the environment and has a passion to drive forward our commitment to become carbon neutral and embed sustainability throughout the organisation. You will be working closely with colleagues to develop new systems and procedures into standard council practice to ensure that carbon reduction and sustainability is at the heart of our work. You will also develop a programme to deliver on the Council’s commitment that includes a new Local Authority Carbon Management plan and Environmental Sustainability Strategy. You will also work with and encourage partners and the community to reduce carbon, air pollution and waste and increase biodiversity and renewable energy generation.We are looking for a confident communicator who is experienced in developing positive two-way working relationships within anorganisation and with external partners. You will be a proactive andself-managing team player, experienced in delivering multifaceted projects. You will also have strong skills in developing policies and strategies and developing systems to monitor the ongoing effectiveness of new policies.The Climate Emergency Project Officer will sit within the Transport and Sustainability team and will liaise closely with other council teams in order to co-ordinate the effective development and delivery ofthe project as well as encourage ownership and personal action amongst colleagues.
As a minimum you will have 3 A levels at grade C or above (or equivalent) or have relevant experience, particularly in sustainability or environmental fields. It is also essential that the Climate Emergency Officer is passionate about tackling climate change and is knowledgeable around issues of carbon management and the challenges of becoming carbon neutral.
