Renewable energy is widely seen as a major step towards achieving the goals of the Paris climate agreement. However, renewable energy production is weather-dependent.  Sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) climate forecasts on timescales of weeks to months ahead have the potential to support the management and operation of renewable systems.  This workshop therefore seeks to address the challenges in the use of climate data (particularly S2S forecasts) in energy applications by discussing:

  • the science basis of climate forecasting,
  • the use of climate data in energy modelling and decision making, and
  • state-of-the-art research advances in the use of climate data in energy modelling.

A full programme is available on the workshop website https://s2s4e.eu/newsroom/climate-forecasting-for-energy-event, and contributions of talks and posters from participants showcasing relevant research are warmly welcomed in the afternoon session (details on the workshop webpage, deadline: 27thNovember).

Scientific organising committee: David Brayshaw and Hannah Bloomfield (University of Reading); Robbie Morrison, Ekaterina Kasilova, Alex Kies, Anne Fouilloux and Martin Dorenkamper (OpenMod); Isadora Jimenez, Albert Soret and Andria Nicodemou (Barcelona Supercomputing Center); Erlend Hermansen and Jana Sillmann (CICERO).
