Kit Rackley joined WEMC after 13 years experience of teaching high-school Geography in the UK; seven of which were as a Director of Geography, leading their department to the Geographical Association’s ‘Centre of Excellence’ Award. Kit has a BSc degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich, UK, specialising in meteorology, climate change, scientific communication and environmental risk. They also have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE Secondary Geography).
Kit is a provider of teacher continuous professional development (CPD) and trainer, which previously included a role as Associate Tutor for the School of Education at the University of East Anglia, and author of a number of published educational articles and resources. In the academic year of 2017-18, Kit undertook a gap-year in the USA where they worked as an educational outreach affiliate for climate scientists based at NOAA Boulder, Colorado and as an educator and trainer at the Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco, California. Kit serves on a number of education committees as a consultant, such as the Education & Outreach Committee for the Royal Meteorological Society, and various initiatives and programmes led by the Geographical Association.
Kit’s main roles at WEMC are coordinating membership and Special Interest Group (SIG) activities and developing activities and resources to promote the learning of climate and energy for students and the general public. They were project manager and education lead for the C3S Climate & Energy Education Demonstrator.
