Welcome to EDF Energy and welcome to Generation Electric!

We’re proud to be Europe’s largest generator of sustainable, low carbon energy; committed to rolling out Electric mobility as standard, self-sufficiency and ownership of energy consumption through smart, innovative products which help decarbonise homes & businesses. We believe that, together, we can create a cleaner, low-carbon future.

Introducing Generation Electric: They are leading a quiet revolution shaping the future of sustainable living and working through low carbon electricity. They are switching to low carbon energy sources, storing it in their homes and then selling it back to the grid and using electricity to power their movement. They are the pioneers of a better, more sustainable future for our planet.

And, at the forefront of the innovations supporting Generation Electric you’ll find all of us: the people of EDF Energy.

Take your next step and join us. We believe that generating and supplying electricity isn’t just about power, it’s about the power to transform lives and futures.

    The Opportunity:

The EDF Energy R&D UK Centre, a fully owned subsidiary of EDF Energy, is an integral part of the EDF Group R&D international network, The strategy of the centre is to lead research and development for EDF Energy, creating value, preparing for future challenges and unlocking opportunities for the business.

You may be working in the Modelling and Simulation team where you will be contributing to the work on lifetime extensions of our current fleet of nuclear power plants. Particularly, the integrity of the graphite cores which is experiencing significant modifications with ageing due to oxidation and irradiation. As the graphite ages, the components are likely to crack. You will be working largely with models and simulations of the plant to ensure safe lifetime extensions.

If you secure a position with Natural Hazards team you will be exposed to the R&D challenges in the areas of environment and natural hazards including meteorology, ocean sciences, marine biology, space weather and climate change. You will get the opportunity to work with key stakeholders to underpin the operations of our current fleet of nuclear power stations as well as the new build development projects.

    Placements are available at:

    • Interchange, Croydon
    • Manchester University

It’s worth noting that we don’t offer relocation help for Industrial Placements. So if the placement you’re applying for isn’t in your local area, you’ll need to be able to cover the cost of moving to and living there yourself.

    The Future:

After you’ve completed your industrial placements, you should know for sure whether you want to be part of the UK’s energy future. If all goes well, we hope to see you back at EDF Energy after university, on one of our gradaute programmes.
