    What is the Internship Opportunity?

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Consulting Intern to join our London team!

BuroHappold’s Strategy and Plan’s team brings together the expertise of world class engineers, urban planners, economists and consultants to examine cities from a variety of angles, giving our clients a unique picture of the challenges to tackle and the assets and opportunities their city can capitalise on. Working on a diverse range of fascinating projects that cover urban development, infrastructure planning and design, resource management, and programme delivery, our Cities business unit is at the forefront of innovation in the urban environment.

Our current portfolio includes diverse city projects and programmes across all continents. From Jakarta to New York, London to Nairobi and from Riyadh to Tblisi we are working with city leaders to examine the obstacles in the way of their vision, defining the strategies and programmes to make concrete progress. Our work helps cities to enhance their plans, programmes and practices enabling cities to deliver tangible improvements to quality of life for the benefit of all citizens. In keeping with our technical background, all of our analysis and strategy development is underpinned by the full range of deep infrastructure design, engineering and environmental analysis available across our practice.

What sort of projects would I have exposure to?

    100RC Melaka / Tbilisi / Jakarta

We are currently working with 100 Resilient Cities to develop resilience strategies for the cities of Melaka (Malaysia), Tbilisi (Georgia) and Jakarta (Indonesia). We are supporting these cities to understand their present resilience status in terms of shocks, stresses and potential scenarios affecting city assets. This process includes extensive engagement with key city stakeholders.

C40 – Benefits of Building Energy Retrofits / Benefits of Urban Climate Action

BuroHappold is currently engaged with C40 to deliver a study to examine the Benefits of Building Energy Retrofits. The aim of this project is to quantify the wider benefits associated with deep energy retrofits in buildings. The scope of the project includes the development of an Excel-based methodology enabling cities to quantify the benefits and using these numbers to drive retrofit policies and portfolio-wide programmes. The methodology will then be tested with three pilot cities. Cities will be selected in a later stage of the project; however, it has been identified that the work should focus on cities in developed countries within the Northern Hemisphere.

We have also recently concluded a study with C40 Cities to evaluate the air quality, health and economic benefits of urban climate action. The purpose of the study was to drive climate actions by enabling cities to quantify the benefits related to them and involved technical workshops with a large number of city organisations from around the world.

    Kenya / Uganda Logistics Clusters

We are currently working with Trade Mark East Africa to support their delivery of trade and logistics cluster within the EAC. The objective of these clusters are to facilitate job creation through unlocking constraints to value addition in export orientated sectors. We are currently assisting TMEA through the provision of economic development, urban planning and financial modelling support for projects within both Kenya and Uganda.

    Jakarta Transit Orientated Development (TOD)

The team is engaged in a wide variety of TOD projects within Jakarta. We are currently providing a range of economic development and urban planning support to key clients to enable them to unlock urban development around new transit stations within Jakarta.
